Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens
Tip 1
When you're ready to eat dinner, let the kids stir up the Vanilla Pudding from scratch. By the time you're done with dinner, the pudding will be cool and rich. Top with some whipped cream and candy sprinkles if you like.
Tip 2
This Vanilla Pudding recipe doesn't require a box pudding mix -- all the ingredients are in your pantry or fridge. Cornstarch makes the thickening process simple and only requires a few minutes on the stovetop. Just be sure to bring the milk mixture to a boil.
Tip 3
Vanilla is added at the end of this homemade Vanilla Pudding recipe in order not to lose its flavor and aroma, which can be diminished by direct heat. A little fresh vanilla bean paste can enhance the flavor even more.
Tip 4
Rum Raisin Pudding: Replace vanilla with rum extract; add 1/2 cup dark or golden raisins with the rum extract.
Tip 5
Caramel Pudding – Substitute dark brown sugar for regular granulated sugar.
Tip 6
Sweet Chocolate Pudding: Increase the sugar to 1/2 cup, mix 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder into the sugar mixture. Skip the butter.
